Purpose of the Role
One Knowsley is seeking to recruit two passionate and dedicated Family Connectors to work as part of the Cradle to Career team in Northwood, Kirkby. The Family Connectors will work in partnership with local services to ensure children and their families can access support that meets their needs, by connecting them within the community.
The role of a Family Connector is to support the social and emotional well-being of families. They may work with parents and young people to identify their needs and goals, and then develop a plan to help them access the support they need. Family Connectors will also work with community resources and partner agencies to create a “Team Around the Family” multidisciplinary team.
Family Connectors help families to navigate complex situations and build relationships with caring professionals. They can help families connect with community support and resources, helping families build resilience and support networks, which can ultimately improve a child’s outcomes.
These brand-new roles offer a unique opportunity to ensure that One Knowsley’s efforts are making a meaningful difference in the VCSFE sector and the communities we serve, bringing together local community residents with professionals/leaders to support and improve the lives of children and families.
The Family Connectors will be formally based at One Knowsley’s offices in Court Hey Park, with day-to-day duties being undertaken in Northwood.
The post holders will:
- Support and identify families (and children’s) dreams and aspirations for Northwood.
- Identify the community assets and services available that will help support local people.
- Help families to access support to relevant services, share information with the community, and build trust between professionals and the community.
- Establish local informal groups/associations, build relationships, and encourage collaboration.
- Capture local stories from learning sites and share findings with stakeholders in partnership with the community.
- Work in line with set contract targets – monitor and record all work to produce quality monthly reports.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Support the identification of people’s dreams and aspirations for their community including families and children, and then support people to identify the community assets that will help those dreams be realised.
- Identify local informal groups and associations and build relationships, encouraging collaboration between organisations and residents.
- Discover ‘Connectors’ across the community, provide opportunities to come together to exchange learning and map community assets.
- Engage a multitude of individuals who are striving to build community; better connect residents together in purposeful and meaningful social activity, volunteering and civic endeavour
- Support local connectors and act as a resource in bringing them together to form an ad hoc collective that helps to weave community activities and associations
- Capture local stories from the learning sites and share key findings with stakeholders in partnership with local residents.
- Facilitate the development of appropriate community-led action in relation to community-building themes.
- Be intentional throughout regarding the relocation of authority to the community and away from themselves, a Community Builder never speaks for citizens.
- Contribute to the participatory evaluation of the learning sites.
- To work in line with set contract targets and monitor and record all work to enable you to produce quality monthly reports.
- Build therapeutic relationships with parents using basic counselling skills and a trauma-informed care approach.
