The “Active Knowsley” programme – delivered by One Knowsley and funded by Knowsley Council, will help Knowsley’s residents to get moving in a host of enjoyable and novel ways thanks to the efforts of 17 organisations from across Knowsley’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector.

Why do we need to move more?

Exercising regularly offers so many benefits for both mental and physical health. From boosting your immune system to boosting your mood and self-esteem, staying active is essential for a healthy, happy life – whatever your age.

Despite this, many of us struggle to get our recommended 2.5 hours a week of physical activity . Our sedentary lifestyles can lead to an increased risk of health problems including: diabetes, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, musculoskeletal disorders and even premature death.

In 2018, physical inactivity contributed to 780 deaths in Knowsley with motivation, capability and opportunity identified as key barriers to activity (Knowsley Public Health, 2018, Keeping Knowsley Active) .

The “Active Knowsley” programme will address these barriers by:
– Providing residents with more opportunities to be active
– Facilitating supportive and educational environments that boost motivation
– Providing access to, and guidance around, diverse and inclusive forms of exercise

We’re excited to be working with the following fantastic Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise organisations to help get Knowsley moving more.
