Knowsley Golden Thread Heritage Project

by | Mar 20, 2024 | News

We are delighted that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded One Knowsley a grant of £237,474 for the ‘Knowsley Golden Thread Heritage Project.’

The two-year project will build on our Knowsley Heritage microgrants programme with Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) groups across the borough, extending the reach of heritage within Knowsley communities. The Golden Thread Heritage project includes innovative participatory budgeting within the delivery plan and will continue to develop and widen Knowsley VCFSE activity through support networks.

About The Knowsley Golden Thread Heritage Project

The Knowsley Golden Thread Heritage Project aims to embed heritage within our communities – VCFSE. The project, made possible thanks to National Lottery players, will champion inclusivity through working with experts in the field and will enable VCFSE groups and organisations and local communities to be involved in heritage, in a way that is driven by them.

This project builds on previous work supported by the Heritage Fund in Knowsley, as an ‘Area of Focus’ 2018 – 2023. Through this a wealth of heritage projects have benefitted the local community and ensured that there is a greater awareness of the important role heritage plays in connecting us with the past and enabling us to look to the future..

Racheal Jones, Chief Executive Officer at One Knowsley, said:

“We are very excited at the opportunity to continue to work with The National Lottery Heritage Fund to continue to mobilise, widen and deepen, community led heritage through our support and development of VCFSE led heritage activity within the borough.  Heritage is powerful, it connects people, communities and place, it roots our past and enables us to imagine our ambitions for the future. The innovative participatory budgeting within our delivery plan will enable us to extend the reach of heritage into our communities in Knowsley through active VCFSE engagement and involvement.”

Helen Featherstone, Director, England, North at The National Lottery Heritage Fund said:

“It is fantastic to see the impact of community grants in Knowsley and how the scheme has helped to engage local people in the heritage that matters to them most. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, we are delighted to award this grant to build on that important work to ensure more local stories are preserved for future generations.”

Andrew Donaldson, Executive Director (Communities and neighbourhoods) at Knowsley Council said:

“This is a great boost to the work that has already been done to recognise and celebrate the rich heritage that we have in Knowsley. It’s fantastic to see so many volunteers and community groups so engaged in heritage projects, discovering and sharing information about the borough and making connections between the past, present and future. Thanks to this additional grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, One Knowsley and partners can continue to develop this work.”
