Ask Your Pharmacist

by | Nov 2, 2022 | News

Did you know that pharmacists are highly trained health experts who can offer a wide range of advice on the best ways to treat many common health conditions – no appointment needed?
If you need advice on coughs, colds, sore throats, upset stomachs, and general aches and pains, then make your pharmacist your first port of call – not your GP or local hospital.

This Ask Your Pharmacist Week (31st October – 7th November 2022), the NHS in Knowsley is highlighting the importance of visiting your pharmacist first for advice and treatment for minor health concerns.

You can learn more about the vital role of a community pharmacist by watching this short video produced with Paul Knapton, a pharmacist based in Northwood, Kirkby.

Care at the Chemist

Did you know that you can get medications for certain conditions direct from a community pharmacy, through the Care at the Chemist service? Care at the Chemist is an NHS scheme that offers quick, cost-effective and convenient access to non-prescription medications and treatments, without you needing to see or contact your GP first.

Some of the main conditions currently covered under Care at the Chemist include treatment for sore throats, eye infections, upset stomachs, minor skin conditions, and thrush. Any medication provided is free for people who don’t normally pay for their prescriptions. If you usually pay for your prescriptions, you will only be charged what the item costs.

While most people are suitable for treatment under Care at the Chemist, if you’ve recently been treated for the condition in question or you’ve symptoms of concern, you may be advised to seek a GP appointment so that they can investigate further.

Many pharmacies are open from early until late, and over weekends too – making them a great first choice for fast and convenient help and advice on lots of common winter health issues, when other services may be closed. Next time you’ve a cough, cold, upset stomach or aches and pains – visit your local pharmacist first.

Search “find a pharmacy” online to find your local Knowsley pharmacy.
