We are pleased to announce One Knowsley is working in partnership with North West Phoenix Way Lead, Lancashire Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Network, and Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation (GMCVO) and is supported in Cheshire and Merseyside by the CVS network, VS6 and CWIP to deliver The Phoenix Way project.
The project exists to support black and racially minoritised communities and community-led VCFSE organisations across Cheshire and Merseyside.
The Phoenix Way is a national collaborative partnership created during the Covid-19 pandemic as a response to the structural inequalities which black and racially minoritised communities and community-led organisations face in relation to influencing and accessing grant funding in the UK.
One Knowsley delivery of The Phoenix Way project in Cheshire and Merseyside
Our project will undertake a mapping exercise of black and racially minoritised led VCFSE organisations across the nine boroughs (Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton, Sefton, Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Warrington, St Helens and Wirral).
We aim to create a dedicated ‘hub’ across Cheshire and Merseyside to identify areas of need within the community and promote the importance of race and equality being embedded into key services.
As part of our work, we will facilitate regular training and workshops to build capacity of black and racially minoritised organisations throughout the boroughs.
Racheal Jones, One Knowsley CEO says:
“The Phoenix Way project exemplifies our commitment to developing inclusive communities. Through this initiative, we aim to amplify the voices of black and racially minoritised groups and empower them to lead positive change in our region.”
Naz Zaman, Lancashire BME Network CO and National Regional Lead for TPW, North West England says:
“The Phoenix Way seeks to ensure that no community is left behind, actively involving communities in the decision-making processes related to funding. The Phoenix Way aims to create a pioneering model that can be replicated to empower Black and Ethnic Minority Communities.”
Luckman Ismail, Lancashire BME Network TPW Programme Manager for North West England, says
‘We are working closely with Black and Ethnic Minority community organisations. This is our opportunity to influence change to the grant making system; allowing better access to funding, to help shape the future of Black and Ethnic Minority Communities. Positive steps to a brighter future.”
