The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Announce Suicide Prevention Grant Fund

by | Aug 25, 2023 | News

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has made available a £10 million Suicide Prevention Grant Fund to support suicide prevention activities delivered in England by non-profit organisations. The funding period is from financial year 2023 to 2024 to the end of the financial year 2024 to 2025.

The strategic objectives of the fund are:

  • to support non-profit organisations to configure their suicide prevention services and activities to better meet the increased demand seen in recent years
  • to support a range of diverse and innovative activities that can prevent suicides, both at a national and community level

This document provides guidance on applying to the fund, including:

  • who is eligible to apply
  • the value of funding available
  • what is required from you during the application stage
  • how we will assess your application
  • where you can find help and support
  • what to expect after your application has been submitted

This is in addition to the information and the terms and conditions of the fund set out in the grant funding agreement template that accompanies this guidance. Note, the grant funding agreement is for reference only at this stage and only successful organisations will be required to complete it.

Funding amounts

Funding requests are capped at £750,000. For funding requests of less than £10,000, fewer details are expected in the application form.

Eligible costs

Costs must be related to the eligible period of when your organisation receives grant funding from December 2023 (at the earliest) to 31 March 2025. The basis for allocating income and expenditure should be on a consistent basis with your accounts (a cash basis or accruals basis).

You must not deliberately incur liabilities for eligible expenditure in advance of need, nor pay for eligible expenditure sooner than the due date for payment. If your project is unsuccessful, the scheme will not cover any costs you have incurred by starting your project at your own risk.

Full terms and conditions for the grant are set out in the grant funding agreement template. This includes details of eligible expenditure and non-eligible expenditure. Please note that this is a revenue funding scheme and capital costs above £5,000 are not eligible unless agreed. Please make sure you have read the terms and conditions set out in the grant agreement template before completing the application, including the section on eligible and ineligible expenditure.

Note that the grant funding agreement does not need to be completed as part of the application process – it is just for your information at this stage. However, you will need to agree to these terms and conditions and complete all the relevant annexes that set out the scope of your project in detail if your application is successful.
